Frequent questions

I cannot hear anything

Engine sound and cabin announcements hang on the Sound on / Sound off switch in the controls panel of the flight deck. If it is on and it is still quiet, check the media volume. The sound deliberately mixes with whatever you are already listening to instead of interrupting it, so loud music can bury it. On iPhone and iPad the engine keeps running when you put the device down; in a browser tab it stops when the tab goes to the background. Either way the timer is based on timestamps, so the flight lands at the right moment.

The landing notification does not arrive

The app asks for permission at boarding, not at launch. If you declined once, iOS will not ask again — you can allow it under Settings → Study Airlines → Notifications. There is exactly one notification per flight, for the landing time; it moves when you pause and is cancelled when you abort. It is a local notification, scheduled on your device. No push server is involved, and the flight runs in full without it.

Does it work without a connection?

Yes. The flight, the timer and all announcements run from the device. Two things need a connection: the Apple Maps view (without it the built-in globe takes over on its own) and the public departures board (it then says it is unavailable). Nothing else changes.

I aborted a flight — where did the time go?

Nowhere. An aborted flight leaves the departures board without landing and does not count towards the totals; only landed flights do. If you need a break, use Pause (turbulence) instead: the break is not counted as study time, the landing moves back accordingly, and the notification moves with it.

Account, data, deleting things

There are no accounts and no sign-up, so there is nothing to log into and nothing to delete. A running flight appears on the public board under a randomly assigned callsign with the two airport codes — no name and no subject. What you type as your subject never leaves the device. Details are in the privacy policy.
